  • Brain surgeons, rocket scientists team up (Daily Press)
    The Daily Press reports: "Scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena are preparing to create an instrument that will capture and display 3-D images of brain surgery during an operation, even as the device peeks around corners inside the brain." --- UC San Francisco is mentioned.
  • Hope for children with rare disorder (Tri-Valley Herald)
    The Tri-Valley Herald reports: "Thousands of miles from their home in Palestinian territories, Amro and Yaser Housheya spend several hours at Children's Hospital Oakland as Amro receives intravenous treatment for a rare condition known as mucopolysaccharidoses or MPS, ... a hereditary disorder that occurs when people lack an enzyme needed to break down a complex sugar ." --- Dr. Seymour Packman, a pediatrics professor at UCSF, and co-director of the UCSF-Stanford Lysosomal Center, which treats many children with MPS, is quoted.

  • A new music program takes off at UCSF Medical Center (ABC 7 Morning News - KGO-TV)
    ABC 7 reports: "Music and medicine can go hand-in-hand to help heal patients. That's what doctors at one of the leading medical schools in the country believe. So Wednesday, they're launching a new music program in San Francisco. ... UCSF has just hired Gabe Turow as its musician in residence to teach hospitalized kids how to play musical instruments." --- Air Times: 5 and 6 AM
  • San Francisco General Hospital bond measure (KTVU-TV CH 2 (FOX) San Francisco -- Morning News Early Edition)
    FOX 2 reports: "Coming up next, a plan to rebuild San Francisco General Hospital. The price tag, more than $800 million. … Welcome back. The campaign to rebuild San Francisco General Hospital is moving forward. Mayor Gavin Newsom announced yesterday afternoon he's submitting the bond proposal to the board of supervisors. It would provide $887 million for a new nine story seismically building near the old building. If the bond measure is approved, construction would begin next summer.
