    The Baltimore Sun gives tips on childproofing your house. --- UCSF Children's Hospital is mentioned.
  • Gay black political group forms (Bay Area Reporter)
    A new political group [called the Bayard Rustin LGBTQ Coalition] for LGBTQ African Americans is making its presence felt in this year's June 3 primary. --- Robert Williams, 43, a lifelong Oakland resident who works for the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies at the University of California, San Francisco, is a co-chair.
  • Promoting life-altering learning (Chicago Tribune)
    More employers are investing in education and training programs that improve an employee's personal as well as professional life. The Chicago Tribune mentions Fanni Munoz, an employee in the human resources department at the University of California at San Francisco, who was "promoted three times, boosting her salary 60 percent, after earning certificates in English and human resources management."
  • U. graduate lauded for good works (Salt Lake Tribune)
    University of Utah student Nicole Nguyen received the YouthLINC Young Humanitarian Award for her volunteer work in HIV prevention. “She won a $5,000 scholarship that she is using partly to pay for a two-week trip this summer with YouthLINC to Kenya, where she'll be volunteering. The rest of the money will go to paying for pharmacy school at University of California in San Francisco, where she starts this fall,” said the Salt Lake Tribune.
  • Gutierrez cares about city (The Record)
    Yolanda Herrera Tejada writes a commendation of Stockton mayoral candidate Steve Gutierrez, who helped her family when Tejada's sister, Hilda Samano, was treated for a brain tumor at UCSF. "UC San Francisco is the best neurological hospital for this very difficult intervention," said Tejada.
  • Cheaper Earrings More Likely to Contain Nickel (U.S. News & World Report)
    Howard I. Maibach, a professor of dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco, and colleagues report in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology that inexpensive earrings containing nickel can cause dermatitis.

    UCSF is one step closer to realizing its vision to create a state-of-the-art and environmentally sustainable medical center at Mission Bay after UC Regents reviewed preliminary exterior design plans at their meeting at UCLA on May 13.
