Rising Rate of Premature Births Explored on KQED’s QUEST

The United States has the highest rate of premature births of any developed nation in the world. But why? QUEST visits the Intensive Care Nursery and Fetal Treatment Center at UCSF Children’s Hospital and meets some of the Bay Area researchers working to answer that question.

The segment includes interviews with UCSF Children’s Hospital physicians Yao Sun, MD, PhD, director of neonatal clinical programs; David Rowitch, MD, PhD, chief of neonatology; and Jim Barkovich, MD, chief of pediatric neuroradiology.

In addition to the video segment, the QUEST website also provides a link to a companion Flickr set that includes photos from inside UCSF’s neonatal nursery.
